Time to experiment....

Love this time of the year, on the cusp of Fall...

Firstly I grade through all my old things and do a recce of the high street looking for this year's key item... It needs to be good quality to work for me this year... The criteria: is it hip now and more importantly, is it of a high enough quality to become a "cherished-old-friend"?

Because shoes and boots have been flat the last few seasons my key item will definitely be a boot...

While we still have them...

As it get's chilly, I love to try on things that I grew very comfortable wearing last winter as I look for new things to integrate into my wardrobe... Such as on trend bargains I found on the web...

It seems like only a few weeks ago in London that spring hit >>>

Italians on Brick Lane...

DSC_0012
One of the original residents who lived on Brick Ln. when the area was first starting to become gentrified...

She is also Italian and Luisa and I hear a lot of Italian spoken on the streets of London... We enjoy "speaking" Italian because some of the words are so funny, for example -pantofole = slippers or scoiattolo = squirrel)!

CoCo, stylist on Redchurch St...

DSC_0023

Last Friday as CoCo posed I asked if she had heard (and assuming she would have had and also liked) "Otis" but she said "eer".  I was a bit disappointed with her answer as I love it and recommend the Deluxe Edition of  Watch The Throne

But If your not a hip-hop fan the tracks below are more pop... or just check out the video

I had always planned on writing a review when Otis first dropped, however I  held off waiting for the full album but can't be objective...

I looked around last week and was genuinely surprised that one reviewer found the message of the video "distasteful" at that time of civil unrest...

The message some heard was after The Lords and MP expenses scandal, after a former senior member of The UK Prime Minister's team was found to be implicated in a police corruption scandal, who's tentacles seem to be reaching deep into the ruling and upper classes, as David Cameron admits defeat over Bankers' bonuses (I wish I could join their discreet clubs and fraternities), it was all bound to happen... There is a thesis that we have are all becoming too cynical seeing how those who rule over us never seem to have to bother to play by the rules...

So why should the mass bother with the rules? And what about the most depressed by the way society is going and only want in some way to express this by taking consumer goods in an desire to catch up? Even if most of their rap is imagined, some look to Jay-z for inspiration...

The problem for the British working classes and the new emerging underclass, getting their high is usually illegal and attracts draconian sentencing…

I bet the MP's crowd all danced and laughed along at the Bullingdon Club to London’s Burning by The Clash, back in the day... Karma's a bitch Mr.Cameron...

The best review I’ve seen is by Jacqueline Springer, academic of black music, which can be heard here for a few more days... Please scrub 5 min's into the program to hear her >>>

'Who ever thought that they could take it that far'>>>

This pic taken on brick lane but he works and shows out of his studio in Stoke Newington...
A soft spoken gentle guy who I asked to make a hard face and he gave me this...

That was the day I had downloaded Watch The Throne [Explicit] [+Digital Booklet] which he listerned to on my phone and as we pushed through the tracks it was all thumbs-up between us but he was the only person I'v met so far, who like me loves it...

"She has a very expressive face" he told me, as I closed-in photographing as close as I could before she objected... But she never did, almost sneering at me as I tried to brake down her defenses...

I really liked her because she was a funny, tough woman... Although never actually confirmed it, seems her name was Esmeralda... She reminded me of many South American women I have known, especially  women with lots of sisters, who all talk to each other about you behind your back,
without saying a word out loud...Just with head gestures and nodding; forehead pointing, eye-brow-raising and rolling eyes and the most damming of all, the lip curl....
